What Is Work Study? Method Study | It's Objectives and Procedures.

Work Study:
Work Study is a composition of techniques used to examine work, what is done so that there is a systematic analysis of all the elements. Work Study is a systematic technique of method analysis work measurement and setting of time standard that can be ensured the highest productivity by the optimum use of manpower, equipment & material.
Work Study is the investigation of work done in an organization in a systematic process in order gain best possible use of men, materials and machines available at present.
Work Study is one of the most powerful tools in Garmens Industry.
History Of Work Study:
FW (Frederic Winslow) Tailor who is called the father of scientific management is the founder of work study. During Second World War USA many arms in short time. Then Mr. FW Tailor applied work study concepts to make many arms in a short time and got a tremendous result. His ideas were generated as they worked for various firms and work study is being used everywhere. Now it is circumference is getting largely day by day.
History of Work Study in Bangladeh:
Mr. Keith Harding form England started Work-Study in Bangladesh (Young One Corporation) in 1991. Now it is contributing very well to increase the productivity in Bangladesh.
Work Study Procedure: There are Two Techniques of Work Study.
1.       Method Study
2.       Work Measurement
Method Study:
“The technique that subjects each operation of a given piece of work to close analysis to eliminate every unnecessary material for the operation and to approach the quickest and best method of performing each necessary element or operation. It includes the improvement and standardization of methods, equipment and working conditions, operator training, the determination of standard time, and occasionally devising and administering various incentive plans.”
George Kanawaty (Editor), Introduction to Works  Study, Fourth (Revised)
Edition, ILO Geneva, 1992.

Method Study is the systematic recording and critical examination of production, service and business processes in order to make improvements. Method Study is more of a systematic approach to job design than a set of techniques, It is defined as the systematic recording and critical examination of existing proposed methods of doing work, as a means of developing and applying easier and more effective methods and reducing costs.
Method Study is also known as Method Engineering. Method Study is a job to achieve process improvement, improve the layout, improve design, better working environment, and reducing fatigue.
Objectives of Method Study:
1.       Improvement products, processes and procedures.
2.       Improvement in the design of plant and equipment.
3.       Improvement of layout.
4.       Improvement in the use of men, materials, machines and money.
5.       Improvement in the flow of production and process.
6.       Economy in human effort and reduction of unnecessary fatigue.
7.       Improvement in safety standards.
8.       Development of better working environment.
9.       Method Standardization.
Method Study Consist Of:
1.       Methods engineering/work design.
2.       Breakdown of operation into components.
3.       Systematic analysis of each component.
4.       Eliminates un-necessary operations.
